Fall 2021 Trailing Workshop

Group Photo

Buffalo River Trackers hosted a trailing workshop run by Cybertracker Evaluators Preston Taylor and Matt Nelson. As usual we all camped out at Tyler Bend campgrounds and drove out from there looking for fresh deer, elk, hog, and bear sign.

The eight participants were broken up in two groups of four with four going with Preston, and four going with Matt. This allowed each participant more time on trail and with more individualized feedback from Preston or Matt. Each group switched out instructors on the second day and headed out to different areas looking for fresh trails.

Over the course of the weekend each group was able to get time in on both Elk and White-tailed deer. We did find old hog sign where multiple fields had been rooted in, but no fresh tracks or trails. And while following a deer trail one group found a telephone pole that a black bear had been rubbing, biting, and scent marking, but no fresh tracks or trails to follow.

It was great to get back out on the trail and test our limits. Conditions on trail were mostly difficult, but one group found an area with more ideal conditions and managed to work a very fresh trail, and might have spooked the deer out of its bed. It was great to meet and work with Preston and Matt, they are knowledgeable, friendly, and best of all patient. See more about them and Cybertracker on the Tracker Certification website.

Happy Tracking
